January 6, 2014

Thank you for your life.

Hi, there. The kid is back. So I am dedicating my 1st post for 2014 to the bravest teenager I knew who is celebrating his special day today.

It’s January 6 today. While having my break at work, I browsed the news feed on my Facebook and saw my friend, Charmaine posted something about our dear friend, Von Edward Pelagio. My world stopped for a minute. My God! I could still not believe that Von has been gone for too long.

Yes, too long. It was Sunday, June 10, 2007. I was on my way home from a Mission Trip at Mamburao, Mindoro when my highschool classmate sent a text message telling me that Von….passed away. Knowing how crazy my classmates were, I did not believe. I was so certain that they were just pulling a prank. But after a few minutes, I received tons of text messages.  While on the road, I did still not believe it ‘til I get a proof. As soon as we reached my co-missiontrip member’s home in Batangas City, I dialed Von’s home phone number and looked for him. The old lady who answered the phone told me….. “Wala na sya”.  I still did not believe, the next day when I arrived at home, I just fixed myself up and met up with my other highschool classmates… So we arrived at Von’s home… There was an obvious set up of a wake, I was not yet crying UNTIL I personally saw Von, sleeping peacefully. I did not know that it will be that hard to lose a good friend.
It was also the day before our first day in college when he died. He even had his lola fix his college uniform because he was too excited!! He was the most excited incoming freshman I ever knew.

His death was so tragic that until now it makes me sad. Von died by saving his family from someone wanting to hurt his Lola (grandmother). He was stabbed for a number of times. He had to sacrifice his life so his Lola can be saved. He did it all. At the age of 16. He literally sacrificed his life for his family. It was heartbreaking especially to his parents that didnt get to see him for so many years (7yrs Im not sure) because they were working abroad, and it just turned out that their last moment with Von was during his wake.  So young, so brave.

But today, I celebrate his life.

Thank you, Edward for making my highschool junior and senior year worthwhile. We did not like each other at first because both of us were too competitive and we tried to beat each other at all subjects. But we ended up being the craziest and funniest tandem at in our batch. During our junior and senior year, Von was the Class President and I was the VP. And yes, We made a great tandem!!

Thank you for all the crazy things that we shared, I had a lot of crazy moments with you (vhat while writing this I am smiling). I remember all our highschool professors thought that we are lovers because we jived at so many things. We ate like there’s no tomorrow, we laughed so hard that only the two of us can understand, I bullied you during your reports in class and you did the same to me, we  had our highs and lows but you have made sure to make me feel okay at all times. We took college exams together and when we knew that we’ll be in different schools, you have always made sure to call me up before the start of our College life.  Thank you Von for also taking me to the dance floor during our JS Prom for a couple of times! May it be a happy or sweet dance. And so many many more!!

I still miss you buddy, Edwaarddooo!! Your death maybe so painful that until now it makes us all sad.. but.. more than that, we celebrate the life that you had here!! I still laugh when I reminsce our junior and senior days!! Thank you for sharing your life us. I am lucky to be a part of the life that u had. Enjoy your birthday in heaven Great soul

Please continue to be my angel. I love and miss you always Von.
